Artist’s Statement

My work explores the interplay between macro and micro symbols in our shared environments. Through this creative process, I aim to unravel universal cultural structures that define identity as an essential aspect of existence. Culture and identity thrive through systems of order, whether stemming from the inherent logic of nature or from human practices that mirror those natural laws. In my art, these forces materialise through line, form, surface, and gesture, going beyond mere representation to reveal the foundational elements that sustain every structure, from the mountain to the motorway.

I approach my artistic practice through two levels of symbolic observation:

Macro: This perspective encompasses landscapes, motorways, and urban environments, all shaped by the intersection of natural laws and social systems. Within the stillness of nature, its principles are clear: mountains stand tall and immutable, while pines sway gracefully, resembling their progeny. In contrast, the motorway encapsulates fleeting moments in which movement becomes a playful tapestry that invites a lighter interpretation, yet remains bound by the laws of structure and flow.

Micro: This focus shifts to individuals and their interactions, highlighting gestures rooted in ritual and heritage. Still lifes emerge as entities reliant on human presence and gravity; when situated in private spaces, they reveal themselves as rich, interior landscapes. The marks I leave are intentional decisions that highlight these intricate relationships.

My goal is to uncover the underlying structures and narratives inherent in my observations, illuminating the mechanisms and laws that uphold our shared world. By weaving together macro systems and micro human gestures, I strive to foster a deeper understanding of the connections that shape our identities. My ambition is for the work to serve as a space where the universal laws of nature and human existence are revealed as an interconnected whole.
